Why is America Going Bankrupt?

Should I be concerned that America is going bankrupt?  According to this report, each household will need to fork up $400,000 to help support Social Security and other programs because baby boomers are now starting to lay claim to their benefits.

What's more, do you think we will ever hear more about this from the candidates in the upcoming election?  The video is from back in January 2008, and I found it quite enlightening.  Here's a topic that I have yet to hear anyone address directly.  Are the candidates avoiding it?

I throw this out there to my readers to help me make sense of all this.  One fine day I'll say to myself "Self, this is one fine day, I think I'll retire".  Well, it will probably go down a little differently, but one day I will want to call it quits and live like Gary, retired and happy.

Seriously though folks, this should be in the top 10 on the issues list for these candidates, but I don't think we'll hear a peep of it.  They'll avoid it like the plague, just you watch.

The last thing I ever want to do is be the town crier, but some things need to have some attention poured on them.  If the candidates cannot look us in the eye and tell us their thoughts, and provide a plan on how we can save America from going bankrupt, then they don't deserve to be up for office.  Just my opinion...what's yours?

I promise this will be the last political BS post I write...really.  Ok, I may get my panties in a bunch over something else in the future, but it doesn't happen too often.  I swear.  Really.

I'm am sick. Unfortunatley no amount of tums is going to fix it. As much as I love my children, I sometimes feel gulity for bringing them into this mess. It is a sad commentary on ALL politicians that this has happened and will continue to happen regardless of who gets elected.

I wonder how my creditors would feel if I paid my bills with an emergency fund that didn't exsist. Wait I know that answer, they woud take everything. The problem there is you can't take anything from the government. Sad. Just plain sad.

Feel free to be the crier when times call for it. A very interesting piece.

I think people are being pessimistic about our situation; although we may be in a slump, our economy will pick back up. One indicator would be the FDIC and the banks, in regards to splitting the bad debts from the good deposits. Our economy will pick back up, and people will be talking about how rich America is going to be.

Just my two cents: which could very well be wrong.

Eh, for one, I'm being a pissy little bitch when it comes to injustices I see happening.

I would love to be supportive and help out my fellow countryman, but when you want to NOT pay into this, you can't! You HAVE to give your money into the pot.

I think that is what disturbs me the most. I'm trusting these yahoo's to ensure that I can get a bit, a small smidgen even of what I've put in to it over the years. I have absolutely no control over it, and it frustrates me.

Let's just say, I have no faith in our government to be able to correct this issue, let alone address it like publicly elected officials should.

@Beau71 - I hope you're right Beau, I really do. I honestly ignore most of this stuff and just go on about my day. Yeah, I may get panties twisted from time to time, but really its about control over my own destiny. They have the control to correct it, or at least put our minds at ease, yet nothing has been forthcoming.

@Karen - I hope you feel better soon! I've been feeling a tingle in my nose for the past three days so I'm hoping I don't get a bug too...

"Yeah, I may get panties twisted from time to time" and this is no big deal as long as your balls dont get all caught up in the twist. just wait until the chrismas season kills the business sector.
