Amazing Eyes on Baby Snow Owl

Had to post this, I couldn't help myself.  I don't normally do MySpace, but I pop in from time to time.  This cute baby snow owl was on the homepage just now and I had to share him.  He has yet to shed his down too, he's still fluffy!

The author is Taranis_64 from Austria.  Apparently he gets to play with birds all day long while the rest of us are slamming hammers or dodging office politics.  There are more videos on his video page.

I've translated German to English with Yahoo!'s Babel Fish app, so someone tell me what this really means.  I figured the snow owl part...

Description: Adlerwarte Kreuzenstein junge Schnee-Eule
Translation: Eagle control room cross stone young snow owl

Simply amazing eyes on this little snow owl don't ya think?  Since I've been with Jacq for the past 10 years, I've acquired a huge appreciation for our feathered friends.  I look at these little guys in admiration of how intelligent they really are.  I've heard many stories of Jacq's bird named David that used to creep up on her roommates shoulder, bite her ear and then quickly run to the other end of the couch and let out a nice 'HA HA HA'.

I've never had the chance to own a bird, and honestly, I wouldn't want to.  The bird I would want (Hyacinth) will out-live me at this point, and let's not forget our little hunter Brick keeping our 7000 sq foot parcel safe from creatures lower on the food chain.

How about you?  Have a bird story to share or perhaps you are the proud owner of one?  Tell us a little bit about your little one.

I dig birds in the wild, but can't say I would get real hip about having one in the house. Plus the cat would go ape-shit!

We have a cat and two cockatiels. The cat is pretty good at leaving the birds alone most of the time. Once in awhile he will stand up and peek in at the them. When he does they squawk and he leaves.

The birds like to whistle with my boyfriend but will not whistle with me. They like Kix and scrambled eggs (not together) for treats but will not eat vegatables or fruit.

@Karen - I've always felt no animal should ever EVER be kept in a cage. I think it's wrong. But, what can you do to change that, nothing really.

@Tammy - I don't think I would be so lucky, Brick is the one I would worry about honestly. He's already snagged about 5 birds from the backyard this year! Poor things...

He's really cute, but the eyes are a bit unnerving. I was interested to see that snow is schnee in German. I went to college with a guy whose last name was Schnee.

Thanks for the visit Wayne. I'm glad to know you liked that last statue!!

@kenju - I'll sometimes hit the 'next blog' and find some interesting blogs, your's being one of them. Thanks for visiting me back, hope to see more of you. I think you'll see more of me. Smile

And yes, the eyes are a little unnerving, and I can imagine even more so if they glowed in the dark!

It almost doesn't look real. I don't think my cat would mess with it, but Piper aka Lennie, would have a field day. It reminds me of that damn toy that was popular a few yrs back. Furby's.

Woot! This totally reminds me of a funny story... which I'm going to post over at my own blog. But thanks for the reminder!

@Leslie - There was some debate about it being real or not on the source, but I tend to think it's real. Lol furby's...

@alex - Hey, when you post it, come back here and drop a link in your comment to it. don't use the 'website' area (it will get trimmed), actually drop it in the comment area.

Thanks for alerting me to the link mix up. I must've been waaay more tired than I thought when I wrote it last night. Anyway, all fixed!

And until you post a "how-to" for what code to use to imbed a link in the comments section of blogs (etc.), I'm going to have to hope people just click on my name!

Simply paste it, and it should work...let's see if I'm right.

I'm totally lost today. Read your blog, then read the comments, then read them again. It must be the Nyquil. Right?

Hiya hotpants! hehe (when did you start using that, I like it)

I can't help you if you're pounding the NyQuil over there, although, a beer does sound good too. It's 5:00 PM somewhere, right?

I am nowhere near fluent in German, but I do believe "Adlerwarte Kreuzenstein junge Schnee-Eule" (which is properly pronounced "ODD-ler KROYT-sen-shtine YOONG-a shnay oil-a"winkmeans "A young snow-owl at the Eagle Control Room in (probably the town of) Kreuzenstein." I'm guessing the "adlerwarte" is a shelter or rehab place for injured birds of prey.

@ferrago - That's the best response to that question I've heard so far. I've even attempted to ask other people in real life. Hmm...so the German language flips the words around like Spanish does. If it weren't for your entry line, I'd think you were a linguist! Unless you are being modest...?

Thanks for visiting and helping me figure that out! Hope to see more of ya!

I am neither. I took two years of German in freshman and sophomore years in high school. I remember the numbers, a few words, and, yes, they do flip the words around a bit.

I forgot to mention in my earlier comment that I linked here from http://scarletvirago.blogspot.com. And, since you yearn to help people, I may hit you up for some advice on my blog later.... like "how do I get more people to read it without actually changing anything I do because that would be a lot like work?"

Thanks for promising to be there!
