My Homeless Brick

Actually, I lied when I said we don't have kids.  We have three actually.  Two cats and a dog to be exact.  This is one of the family right here, Brick.  Yes, Brick is his name.

All our family are rescues in one form or another.  One day we heard a kitten crying off in the distance.  Too far to go hunting for since surely someone else is hearing it.

Next evening, we hear the same kitten crying off in distance, but this time, it was coming from the other direction.  It could have been another kitten entirely, and may have been for all I know.  I tend to think differently about it though.

The third time I heard the kitten, I was outside talking with my neighbors about something.  Then I hear it.  It's coming from my neighbors side yard.  I ask if he mind if I retrieve it, and of course, he didn't mind.

I found Brick underneath a stack of bricks in some woebegone area of the neighbors side yard. He was covered in fleas and one of his eyes were infected pretty badly.  I picked him up and immediate took him to Jacq, the resident pet medic.  She cleaned him up as best she could and we took him to the vet to have his eye checked on.  Brick was so tiny and so young, we worried for him making it with the infection in his eye.

I'm happy to report today that his eye has long since healed and he has fully recovered, grown and become the pain in the ass he is today.  He quickly love up on you and the next minute sink his teeth into you for looking at him cross-eyed.  He's a great cat though, and I'm glad I found him.

He's been through a few adventures, and this is just one of them.  We found him under a newspaper, relaxing.  I grabbed the phone (not the camera) and set it to multi-shot, this is what happened.

Aww he's cute. One time I heard my dog barking and went to see and there was a baby kitten stuck behind some bricks(sound familiar). I picked him up and living out in the country all the dumb men would rather kill an animal than help it. I told hubs that there was no way anybody was gonna kill that kitten. There's a lady down the road who works for a vet and we went and brought her the kitten. She said she'd take him but she needed help planting some new trees and bushes she had just bought. HAHA Hubs had to help her. Teaches him for wanting to be mean. He knows now that he better not even think about hurtng animals with me around.

That's great that you found the cat and got him all taken care of. You must be good people.

@Tiffany - That's a good thing. I always imagine if I were the cat, what would I like to have happen. I feel like a steward of animals in a way, but I can't go filling up the house with animals either.

@Karen - We try (Jacq and I), and thanks. He's a joy to have around, especially when he decides to jump on your lap and ram his head into yours. He truly rules the roost...even the dog.

He looks like a healthy young lad. Does he go out at all?

@Adam - Oh yeah, all our animals are free to move about the country. (damn, I love when commercial slogans make their way into my head so much they come out in conversation...I digress). He's a very healthy boy that is down to about 6 lives left. He broke his leg at one point and we had to have that fixed. He stumbled around with this brace on his leg for about a month...I have pix to embarrass him with....they'll be forthcoming soon.

It's always great to help animals just don't get in over your head. We just had a fund raiser for a horse rescue a while back. A woman in the south sound had taken in so many horses that she couldn't take care of them. They were in sad shape but the organization up here was able to save many of them.

Hope Brick is as solid as his name he he Smile

@Demeur - He's solid and my little bad-ass! He's the last that we can add to our family unfortunately. our little surprise as it were. The cost of everything is starting to cramp our style a bit and I realize, now, the true cost of having kids (yes, not as bad as real kids I know), but still...
