Petroleum Paradise South of the Border

I was watching the news the other night and they had a story on people that are adding additional fuel tanks to their trucks to help with the rising cost of gasoline.  I had an idea where one might head to Mexico, where the cost of gas is nearly one-half the cost of fuel here, and transport their own fuel back over the border for sale here at discounted rates.  That's an idea that just won't work, but this one will!

The problem with my original idea is that you simply cannot cross back into the United States from Mexico with fuel outside of your vehicles fuel tank.  It's 'not allowed'.  However, if the fuel is in a container that is attached to your vehicles main fuel line, then there isn't any problem.  It's a go!

Consumers that can fit an additional fuel tank in the back of their truck can gain some serious savings by crossing the border and filling up both tanks.  You can double your capacity, which translates into further miles on the road without fueling up, and if you get your fuel in Mexico, you can do so for half the cost of gasoline here in the States.

I looked around the web and found ExpressDistributing.com had fuel tanks for sale.  And it looks as though the prices are good for the return you would get.  I haven't done the math, but I suspect after a few months the new tanks will have paid for themselves, if you get your gas from Mexico.

The original ABC news story can be read here.

well lets hear it for good old Yankee enginuity, if there is a will, there is a way thinking. Course if ya live more than 100 miles from the border and hold a regular job---Wayne's solution might not answer your need, but at least he is thinking----Its only a matter of time before Mexico gets wise, or Mexican gas sellers get wise, and add a "Sur-charge to cars with non-mexican license plates-----I know MY people have condo's on the other side of the border, and go down just about every weekend-----they even have "Fast Track" stickers to cut down on the wait time at the border returning to the USA-----Frankly, I am making the changes I need to make to cut down on the use of vehicles all to gether. walk to the store, plan ahead to minimize the amount of driving I do have to make when using the car----and am about to investigate (gasp) what and where and how much does it cost to take a bus to get around. (I figure we could convert all the freeway lanes to just use of busses---the comute times would be cut by two thirds---and do wonders for the smog levels at the same time. (the 3 million car salesmen could be retrained as bus drivers)

They have buses in LA? Wait till the city can't afford the fuel for them and a bus ride starts costing $10 one way.

Let's just take the Bush approach. We'll just go invade Mexico and take their oil. I'm sure we can come up with some phony evidence like they're exporting tomatoes of mass destruction.
