Web Site Idea: Saving America

Ok, you might say this is a little one sided and doesn't help the world because it's focused on just America.  I'd say you are wrong.  This is an idea whose time has come if not over due.  Read on to see what I mean.

Self-sufficiency is crucial

I have a strong belief in self-sufficiency.  I try not to burden anyone with my own problems and seek to stem any potential problems in anything I do by giving things a little thought before acting.  Perhaps this is something I got from my mother or grandparents when I was being raised.  Regardless of how I began doing this, it has served me well so far.

I firmly believe that one can provide the best support to others by taking care of themselves first.  By ensuring you are taken care of first, you can then provide help at a level that is greater than someone that is distracted by their own ambitions or money-driven thoughts.

I don't mean to say that everyone should be 'in it' for themselves.  What I mean to say is that you should take care of yourself to be able to take care of others better.

The same goes for us living here in America as far as I'm concerned.

Thoughts on America

I have been rather upset with what I see happening in the world.  I don't have to look to far to see America sliding down the tubes of implosion either.  I have a few points to make on that:

  • America is ruled by corporate greed - I see no need to quantify this one.  I think it's obvious.
  • America is run by hypocrites - Our leaders have shown time and again that they will accept money and presents from those that need the influence the hypocrite provides.
  • America is amusing itself to death - Celebrity fanaticism fueled by the media.  The media itself is provoking its viewers at every commercial and every news hook.  Police chases on video, suicidal jumpers, natural disasters, and on and on.  People love to watch or find out more about others suffering, torments and rage for their own amusement.  To some degree, I feel this is a method of distraction by the government and corporations, for the populous to be induced into a state of delusion.  'If I drink Pepsi over Coke, I'll have more fun'.  Crap like that.
  • America appears to help other countries more than it helps itself - It seems that we spend more to help other countries with no obvious return on our investment other than a 'stabilized foreign country' or for import and/or export of goods.  I don't have any quantifiable evidence to support this...it just appears this way.
  • America doesn't put enough focus on education - Our educational system and schools are suffering right under our noses.  Our children are not getting the education we hope they would.  Are we upset?  Perhaps, but it doesn't show enough.  Things are still going downhill.

Why do we continue to fuel the fire by watching or showing interest in meaningless television fodder?  Why do we allow people to continue politicking that have shown they are in it for themselves and not for the people?  When are we going to say enough is enough and take our country back from these people?

I, for one, have had enough.  So much so that I would rather eat coconuts on a deserted island than continue to live in a country and support it via taxes where there doesn't appear to be any good people running the country anymore.  I'm getting tired.

I want to throw away my television and turn off the radio.  I'll sit in a corner and hum to myself until it's all over.

Or, I will build a web site to promote my ideas, and help to get this country back on its feet again.

Enter SaveAmericans.com

I purchased the domain name SaveAmericans.com for that sole purpose.  Don't bother looking at the domain, there isn't anything there.  The idea was to create a web site that helped to promote our own welfare and safety here in America.  Another community site perhaps, or maybe a brochure-ware site for information.

The site would raise awareness as to where we are spending money on foreign aid, and who is the primary responsible individual for promoting the spending, how much we are spending and why it's necessary.

On the flip side, the site would also compare numbers on how we are spending money internally to benefit fellow American's.  The comparison could then be used to show, with facts and figures that we do more for other countries than we do for ourselves (if in fact that is the case, remember, I don't have numbers, so I'm guessing based on what I see and hear).

Another aspect of the site would be to facilitate help between the federal, state and local authorities and the people that actually need the help here in America.  Remember Katrina?  People are still not back to 'life as usual' in New Orleans and other parts of Louisiana.  Home foreclosures are rampant now and only getting worse.  Prices for gasoline and food are going to get higher presumably.

The current flooding in the Mid-West is going to reap havoc across the States, and the pinch is just starting to be felt.  All the farmers whose homes are flooded and whose land has been damaged might not get things 'back to normal'.  Imposed change is sometimes good, but in this case, it certainly isn't.

Back to the site.  If the people that are displaced due to natural disasters had a way to get to SaveAmericans.com, they could find help and resources for to help them get back on their feet, or find some way to get help.

The site could also be a place for donating (yeah, if you haven't noticed by now and from last weeks web site idea post, I'm big on giving).

I think the core of the web site though would be to point out the differences between what we give our own countrymen versus what we give to other countries.

The big idea

The big idea here is that if we are able to help ourselves and get things straight here in America, THEN we can go and be philanthropic in other lands.  As it stands today, there are people here in America that could use the help, and in my opinion, they should come first.

I've left this idea somewhat incomplete on purpose.  I'm allowing the collective that is the Internet to provide comments as to their thoughts and ideas around this web site.

Please fill in the blanks and hopefully someone out there will have the time, abilities and financial wherewithal to actually do America some good with this idea.

Update - I need to add that if you are not living in America, wouldn't you feel better served if everyone in your country focused on making things better there before anyone else's country?  Also, this is by no means to say that one should not ask for help either.  Self-sufficiency needs to be balanced with the knowledge to know when to ask for help.

welcome to the real world Wayne---less than seven media companies control the communcations in this country----and I bet you thought the government did----your generation gets to turn out the lights at the end of the late great USA---make it easy on yourself, vote for the "if your poor ask for more crowd"---that way you can be drinking champagne as the ship sinks below the waves------

"We do more for other countries than we do for ourselves." I wouldn't agree with that.

Canada is fighting a war in Afghanistan. The “full cost” of the Afghan war to Canada has already been $7.2 billion. Afghanistan is not our war.

@Gary - If there is a 4 peice string quartet there when I'm drinking champagne (I can only wish), I'm going to shoot them. I mean it. I'll shoot! hahaha

@Rose - That kinda makes my point though doesn't it Rose? Even though you are in Canada, don't you feel that there are things you need straightened out on your own homefront, instead of having a presence in Afghanistan?

I don't know much about the Afghan war to be honest, it doesn't seem as important to the news agencies that feed Americans I guess. Now I'm just feeling terribly negative. Although, I find it hard not to be given the topic.

This is only arm-chair politics from one American Idiot (to quote Green Day) to everyone else. The core idea is that we should be taking care of our elderly, our children, our educational system, our farmers, our poor, hungry and homeless, and be able to do this ourselves without having to ask other countries for help. Other countries should aspire to do the same. Instead of ignoring these issues and slip-sliding off the topic like those in power seem to do.

if everyone had YOUR attitude Wayne, radical as it is----taking care of oneself and family---would undermind the whole concept of government welfare---families taking care of themselves----I can't imagine a modern America, without a big government hand out trough for the pigs----

Yeah, welfare. If I ever find myself in a position to where I need that, I'll use it. But believe me, I won't be on it for long It's there to help when you need help, not make a lifestyle with. Too many make a lifestyle of kicking out babies to increase their welfare.

Perhaps they should be put into the military instead. On second thought, the inherent lazyness of said people would cause us to lose wars perhaps, so maybe that's not a good idea after all. sigh...

Government only exists because we allow it.

Wayne that $7.2 billion could go into health care.

What about the families that are on welfare to substitute their earnings? Do you think that a family of four can afford to live on Dad's $8.75 an hour Job? Some families have little choice but to accept the lifestyle of welfare.

  1. Wayne
    Wayne Says:

No, a family of four probably cannot survive on $8.75 an hour. But it begs the question, why are they in that position in the first place? How did they get there? Sometimes they get there by their own choices, others by circumstance outside their control. Either way, both should work hard to better themselves to enable higher earnings.

I refuse to believe that people cannot better themselves and increase their earnings through finding better jobs, educating themselves to increase their earning potential, or positioning themselves to take advantage of opportunities in the future. If there are no jobs where you live, move to where they are. If you are flipping burgers, perhaps you should get some schooling and a different job. Too many people stop looking for work once they find a job.

People should not use my tax dollars to live a life of laziness.

That 7.2 Billion is something the Canadian people should rise up against the government and let them know in no uncertain terms that it isn't acceptable. I agree, there are better, more humane uses for that cash than fighting a stinking war on the other side of the globe.

In my opinion, welfare should be considered a transitory help mechanism, not a way to sponge off the people that pay taxes into it.

There are usually several solutions to any given problem, just because one has found a solution, doesn't make it the best one.

OOooo I'm riled up now. Smile

Wayne, I'm not sure where you have been these past few years, but there are those with a college educate flipping burgers. Having you ever worked in fast food? I assure that you that it is NOT a life of laziness. Have you bothered to look at the cost of housing? Many families are paying so much for rent that they can't afford necessities such as food, utilities and other basics.

The Canadian people have risen up, but does the small voice of the American citizen make much a difference? Your troops are still over there.

I worked in McDonalds for one day, and decided I could do better and left. I never said working there is lazy, they choose to work there, and they CHOOSE to stay there. They can choose to look for better after having satisfied some of the need to have income.

I've also bussed tables at various restaurants (see Meme), busted my ass as a mover for two years, they were always a stepping stone to better things. In fact, that is all any job should ever be, a stepping stone to something better.

I'm quite aware of the cost of housing, and I'm sympathetic to those that find it hard to make the rent or mortgage each month. I'm looking at my own finances these days and trying to find additional sources of income to suppliment my income. I'm well aware the cost of living is rising out of control.

The persons and families that proactively seek to find better jobs, better income and what-not should be applauded and helped! Those that just sit around and whine about it should be kicked to the curb. We don't need any whiners...but I digress...

I have yet to see any proper protests here in America. The last real protest/demonstration I saw disgusted me. Illegal Immigrants fighting for citizenship in the US while waving Mexican flags!!! Disgusting and highly inappropriate if you ask me. There's another razor barbed post for another day.

I don't recall seeing any proper protesting over the war, and that disturbs me greatly.

I see the angle you are coming from I think, a more sympathetic and mothering type of approach whereas I feel people should be more 'take charge and do'. Am I right on that?

I'm thinking of those out there that feel the system can simply take care of them while they sit on their asses at home eating bon-bons and spit out children to raise their welfare income. That's wrong in my opinion and they need to have an imposed reality check.

I see you stereotyping all those on the system. If I'm wrong then I apologize.
  1. Wayne
    Wayne Says:

Oh no apologies, it's hard to communicate via simple text when you don't have facial or body language to help you out right?

I don't think I'm stereotyping as there are plenty of people with valid reasons to use the system, and some take advantage of the system beyond what should be normal usage. It's the ones that use it and never try to make theings better for themselves that I have issue with.

Those that need to use the system SHOULD, by all means, use it to help you out! That's why it's there. But there are those that would use the system, and say 'I've arrived!' and never try to get themselves off the system. They become a burden on the system and I feel it's wrong.

The system is only a means to an end, and should be used as such.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression on that.

That was my point. Not to stereotype.
