Comedian George Carlin Has Died

George Carlin has died of heart failure in Santa Monica California.  I, for one, will miss him greatly.

Of all the comedians I've watched, George Carlin has made the biggest impression on me.  His comedy questioned everything from religion to words themselves.  He also had his own views on obscenity which I can do nothing more than agree with.

The whole problem with this idea of obscenity and indecency, and all of these things — bad language and whatever — it’s all caused by one basic thing, and that is: religious superstition,” Carlin told the AP in a 2004 interview. “There’s an idea that the human body is somehow evil and bad and there are parts of it that are especially evil and bad, and we should be ashamed. Fear, guilt and shame are built into the attitude toward sex and the body. ... It’s reflected in these prohibitions and these taboos that we have.

He made us laugh with his wit and logic, and he made us think.  And perhaps that is the greatest thing about George Carlin.  Not only does he induce laughing in everything he has done, he also makes you stop to think and question what you already thought you knew.

And lets not forget those 7 words you can never say on television.

George Carlin will be missed by myself and thousands if not millions of others on this little blue planet.  My only regret is not being able to see or meet him in person.  We'll miss you George.

Damn, Looking at George's birthdate, see the kid was two weeks younger than myself---thats depressing, to see a guy cut down in his prime like that. I notice to you remind us of his skit "The seven words you can't say on Television"----the industry took note of that and well on Cable they now can say those words, but alas and alack, on the free broadcasts known as public television, they are still banned----although I suspect if one were to go into the homes around the country and listen---one would hear all those words, and then some, as the viewers find their programs interrupted with commercial after commercial------

Everyone has their own time my friend. I actually hope to pass near that age as I don't think I'll be a very healthy individual near that time. I don't consider that negative, but more realistic. And it's lit a fire under me to get done what I want to get done in this lifetime.

I'm going to miss him dearly. I hope he has done some more stuff that we'll be able to see in the near future.

I will miss George Carlin...he was truly one of a kind and a great comic. I was fortunate enough to not only see him perform but I actully met him in person at the airport in Seattle the night before he was to perform. I was returning from a trip to Calif and we were on the same plane. I only spoke to him breifly in the airport but he was nice and even made a few jokes about the amount of baggage and kids I had...3 kids..six bags. Kept asking me.."you sure you got them all..did'nt leave one on the plane did you?" Just a really nice guy..

George Carlin always reminds me of my dad (the biological one i hardly know). He was a great man and comedian. He once showed us a pic of his cat looking bored while being mounted by his dog.
"We're all fucked. It helps to remember that. "

Sue - Thanks for sharing that wonderful story. I've always imagined that he would be friendly enough to speak to others, even crack a few jokes along the way.

You didn't leave any kids behind, right? Smile

Ryan - I remember that pic! I forget which show he did that in, but it was pretty damn funny

Thank you both for swinging by!

I just finished watching Larry King's tribute show to George Carlin. It reminded me of why I liked George Carlin, and it goes pretty deep. I connected with George Carlin on many levels and sometimes I felt like he was speaking for me. His views on religion primarily rang true for me.

He simply had one really deep thinking head on his shoulders that I really admired.

Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it.
