Check out the moonrise on Wednesday!

The moon is supposedly going to look really big when it rises tomorrow night, from what I hear in the news.  I've seen this happen before and every time I'm enthralled by it.  I begin thinking of how small we really are in the grand scheme of things and wondrous space is.  I've always been a huge geek for space.

I've tried to refrain from posting anything about space due to the excitement I'd feel would fill this blog with nothing but space stuff.  Here's an exception I'm willing to make though.

I own a telescope.  A cheap, but nice one.  Has the whole computer system hookup and motors to move the scope from star to star.  It's a little broken at the moment and in need of better eyepieces, but for the most part, it will still get a great shot at Jupiter, Saturn and of course, the moon.

I'm no astro-photographer

Here's a few photo's I took of the moon and planets through my telescope.  These were done under the incredible noise of light that is the Southern California night skies.  They were also done by sticking my camera into the eyepiece and hoping for the best!  Enjoy!  And remember to check out the moon tomorrow night!  It should be rising a little after 9:30 PST.

A full explanation as to why the moon looks larger can be found in the same news item.

well I went back and read the scientists explanation of why the mood appears to be larger, ---and frankly, found their baffle gab not unlike that we all got from Chicken Little, in that "The sky is falling" scandal a few years back.

@Rose - Thanks! I also had some of Jupiter and Saturn but was unable to find them

@GaryJay - I found the explanation to be quite logical actually. Given our spherical view and the angle of viewing. It made sense. Now if the moon starts falling, then I would be the chicken little running around squaking about...perhaps I'd do it naked because it wouldn't matter anymore...on second thought...scratch that. Perhaps I'd be better off not spending those last moments in embarresment.
