IT Certifications Declining in Value

I always felt this way about certifications.  I obtained a certificate in ASP.Net back during 1.1 days, but always felt I wasted my time with it.  Yeah, I may have learned more than I really needed to by ramping up to take the test, but in the end, it did nothing for me.

"Certifications were created by vendors to sell products. Once people were trained, these companies ended up with all of these specialists out there that didn’t work for them but advocated for them," said Foote.

Funny, I've always thought that, yet I kept seeing numbers of people signing up and promoting their certifications.
