Writing a web site that conforms to a variety of browser and operating system configurations is a pain in the ass, plain and simple. I would venture a guess that most developers wouldn't even be able to properly test on all possible configurations simply due to the variety of OS's and browsers that are out there today.
BrowserShots.org can fill that need to some extent by providing image captures of a web site rendered under many of these configurations. BrowserShots.org provides a free service that will take a URL and return an image of the rendered output from the URL.
I ran it against WayneJohn.com and found some interesting information.
Here's the Galleon browser on Ubuntu....doesn't look like what I intend, so I know I have an issue there.
Here's another which is FireFox on Ubuntu. Looks fine to me.
At this point I have around 24 images of my site in various combinations. It's now up to me as to how I use this info, but quite honestly, I think I'm fine conforming to IE6 and Firefox 2 on Windows XP.
What browser/OS combinations do you try to conform to? I was recently put off by some sites not conforming to IE6, but I think perhaps I need to re-evaluate what combinations I need to support. Should I bump my baseline for IE to IE7?
