You might know, I’m a complete nut for anything Pink Floyd, and over the years I have been trying to locate some movies that Pink Floyd had done soundtracks for. Imagine my glee when I find that Flosyd has a wonderful YouTube channel filled to the brim with great Pink Floyd works.
The following clips comprise the whole Zabriskie Point movie, of which Pink Floyd helped out with the soundtrack along with the likes of Jerry Garcia, Patti Page, Grateful Dead, The Youngbloods and The Kaleidoscope.
The tune Richard Wright had written for the later famous Pink Floyd track “Us and Them” on Dark Side of the Moon was created for the movie, but was rejected based on the fact that it was too close to sounding like “Careful with that axe Eugene“, which was used, but called “Come in number 51, your time is up“. (It’s worth noting that structurally, the two songs are different, however they do sound quite alike)
The film was a complete bomb at the box office and it didn’t get any attention from the hippie culture at the time, nor did it even come close to breaking even. Sad. But, we did get some incredible music from Pink Floyd and the others that helped create the soundtrack.
Zabriskie Point was written by Michelangelo Antonioni and produced by Carlo Ponti. It was distributed by MGM in 1970, nearly a year before I was born.

On an Island is David’s best solo work IMO. I have everything they’ve all done, and with that album, David proves that he can still write those songs that just stick with you and make you want to crawl inside your head and rock back and forth to the music.
I saw the concert from the second row too. Absolutely wonderful! David Crosby was and Graham Nash were there supporting him, and Richard Wright even popped on stage for a bit.
The entire first part of the show was the complete On an Island CD, then, of course, he played a number of classics, including some Syd material…which was a really cool bonus.
These posts are really for myself. I’ve been looking for these movies for years without any luck. Now that I’ve found them, I’m going a little ape shit with them…I don’t think anyone is going to mind though. lol
Nothing like talking music to get me out of the woodwork. I recommend the CD by David Gilmour “On an Island” some very Floyd-like guitar sounds.

Rich, good to know! I got into the Dead way too late to really enjoy them in their day…well…same with Floyd too I guess.
I’m trying to collect each and every RoIO I can find out there, so it looks like we have a little something in common beyond Internet stuff huh, very cool!
Holte, good to hear from you again!
Pink Floyd and Pink Floyd fans never cease to amaze me. Long may it be so.

Wayne,
This is very cool. I have the vinyl soundtrack album but have never seen the movie. I will come back and view the whole thing when I get a lull in the action. As you are with Pink I am with the Dead. I own the rarest of all Grateful Dead related records with only a handful of copies known. It is a 45RPM Fire in the City/Sons and Daughters by Jon Hendricks and which is the very first time Bobby and Jerry ever recorded on vinyl.
Hey man thanks!
