Hi there and thank you for taking time to visit my site. My name is Wayne John, not to be confused with John Wayne, whom I am named after. I'll get into that in a little bit.
Professional
My days are spent around Microsoft development technologies such as .Net and SQL Server, however I still perform a lot of work in Classic ASP still as there are plenty of sites that have yet to transition to .Net.
I started my career designing databases in Access and quickly moved up to SQL Server. Relational theory really caught my attention and I was enthralled with designing data models to fit project needs. My database efforts were complimented with extensive Excel 5.0 VBA projects. Microsoft Office was my development platform in the early 90's for many projects. I can easily say that if you have a question about any one of the Office products, I can speak to it.
Then the web came about and changed everything. I got my first whiff of the web around 1994 and learned some HTML and how a web site is put together. I pressed on and began developing applications with VB 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 using SQL Server, DB2, and Sybase for a number of contracted clients. I also switched into writing classic ASP applications as well.
Enter .Net. I knew this was going to be a significant change in the way we developers write code and develop our applications, so I had to learn it if I wanted to remain a viable entity in my current profession. I dove into .Net during the beta period, but was a little put off by the lack of VB.Net documentation. Everything was done in C#! I pressed on in VB.Net for some time, but ultimately had to transition to C# since everywhere I went, people seemed to be writing in C# and didn't want any VB.Net coders. I made the switch to C# during .Net 1.1 and never looked back.
I still thirst for knowledge that I don't already have when it comes to programming C#. However I am not your average bit head either. Over the years I have had the pleasure of doing much more than simply programming. I am usually put in front of clients since I seem to be able to relate to the non-technical people just as much as I can the techies. I have also had the pleasure(?) of managing several projects to a successful completion.
At the end of the day, I can wear any one of the hats below:
- Technical Project Manager
- Senior/Lead Developer for Web and Windows applications
- Database Designer/Modeler
- Technical Consultant/Advisor
- Code Monkey
I love this stuff since it has always been a hobby of mine. I am highly familiar or maintain a usable level of knowledge on:
- C# and VB.Net for ASP.Net and Windows Forms
- Web site development, maintenance, and promotion methodologies
- Database design and optimization
- CSS, HTML, JavaScript, VBScript
- Classic ASP
- Much more...they will come to me....
Personal
I live in a wonderful home in Southern California that my girlfriend of 10 years and I picked up about 5 years ago. It's pretty near equidistant from Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland. In fact we hear the Disney fireworks just about every night if we happen to be near an open window or outside. It's pretty neat living close to the amusement parks, the beach, mountains and desert and it provides us plenty to do when we have some free time.
We have a dog and two cats named Tigger, Brick and Lil F**ker respectively. We don't have/want children, so we can name the cat whatever we want.
For fun we like to get out on our motorcycles and just cruise around town enjoying the ground speeding by us. We also like to throw parties during the summertime. The party's seem to be an excuse and justification for having a pool sometimes, but I do like to swim laps as I have always been a fish out of water. We also enjoy country dancing and having and good time anywhere we can.
I mentioned at the top of this page that I was named after The Duke, John Wayne. This is true, and in fact I am actually a Jr. My grandfather gave my dad the name, and he said he gave it to me as well so he wasn't the only person that had to deal with being named after some famous actor. Growing up was pretty annoying with my name, but what was really funny looking back were the first days of school. The teacher would always stop around the H's or I's and begin to scan the room as if they were thinking 'Ok, which one is John Wayne?'. Never failed.
It also made me pretty well known through high school. I would often hear people say to each other, 'That's the one named John Wayne' and point. It made me well known perhaps, but the drawback was that I couldn't get away with much and remain anonymous since everyone knew who the one named 'John Wayne' was. Don't even get me started on people that have to file folders alphabetically by name...
Thank You
