I’m enjoying wrapping up each month with a summary of how my efforts are going in terms of making some money online. I think the transparency is also nice and it shows that it really is possible to make a little extra cash for yourself when you put things together just right. I did a report for May in this post.

You might recall that at the start of June 2009 I was running this site on BlogEngine and then transitioned over to WordPress. The transition was a success, however I’m still dealing with several issues as a result of the transition. Namely:

  1. I’m still unable to create a hyperlink using the standard TinyMCE interface in the edit post screen
  2. An influx of spam. Seems that BlogEngine does a great job of eliminating spam whereas after the transition I’ve been bombed with spam on WordPress. I think this really has to do with the popularity of the two engines being so diverse. BlogEngine tends to be more for developers where WordPress is more for everyone, and also has a much larger user base.I’ve also noted that most of the spam is automated, and not provided by people fat-fingering the text.
  3. Becoming familiar with all the plugins and analyzing what they do. There are a bunch of plugins that are good, and plenty that aren’t worth the time to consider. Choosing between what’s needed and what is trash has been a bit time consuming.
  4. Deciding a new direction for my blog. I’ve taken some time to reflect on my own goals and how this blog plays into them. I’ve decided that I need to ignore the call to be so involved with everyone else, commenting just for the sake of showing that I’m there and participating. I’m opting to be more in the background of life again. The spotlight is not where I’m most comfortable.

With all that said, making the transition to WordPress has been a great experience for me. It’s also proved to me that WordPress is the best blogging platform out there, for many reasons in fact. I’ll elaborate on those points in another post. For now, let’s get to the good stuff and talk money.

Make Money Online Report

Last month wasn’t as good as I had hoped. I’m seeing a slight downturn in the growth that I had hoped would continue on eBay, but all-in-all, it was still a good month considering what I’m doing. Here’s how things turned out for me.

  • Google AdSense – $52.46
  • eBay – $69.90
  • DiggityHost – $9.40
  • Client projects – $200.00
  • LinkListings – $20

That comes to a total of $351.75, which I am calling really good increase overall. The client projects revenue was actually generated months ago but only recently came through to actual realization. I work with my clients sometimes. If they can’t afford to pay, I’m more than willing to work with them a little and allow the time to pay to stretch a little.

As you can imagine, I’ll be stepping up my game on client projects. I’ll be more profitable there now that I’ve worked out some kinks that have since made that pipeline not so attractive to me.

July is shaping up to be a good month as well, and a very busy one. After the 4th of July passed, I’m now looking at 2 weddings to attend and a big birthday bash to create and host. I’m going to be one busy pooper, but I’ll manage. Until next time ya’all!

Cheers!
