Lil Wayne Versus John Wayne and Wayne John

What if you saw a billboard advertising Lil Wayne Versus John Wayne in a boxing match, or even a gunfight? Well, you’d know it’s a fake, since the Duke is beyond fighting now.

I’ve been doing some thinking. Don’t worry, hell hasn’t frozen over and no harm has come to any beavers. I’ve been thinking about what might happen if I change things around with my title. What might happen to my search engine rankings if I change it just a wee little bit?

Being that I am currently engaged in learning more and more about keywords and how Google will rank pages based on those keywords, I think the exercise might be beneficial.

Here’s my thinking, and the SEO specialists among us here can pipe up at any time to add your two cents, or even their 50 cents. ;)

There are people out there doing searches for John Wayne memorabilia, and there are people that are searching for Lil Wayne. We know this. Lil Wayne is being especially searched for now that he won himself some Grammy’s.

Lil Wayne — who led the field with eight nominations — won three awards, including best rap album for “Tha Carter III,” for which he literally hopped on stage to receive.

Because of my name, I get a little bit of that John Wayne traffic from time to time, but hardly any. To be honest about it, I’m completely muted by the largeness of all that is John Wayne.

If you type in ‘Wayne John’, then I show up on the first few pages. If you type ‘John Wayne’, I’m no where to be found. That’s realistic enough to show that Google certainly does some serious analysis and crunching in the background on what it indexes. Given that it can obviously tell the difference between myself and the duke, just by the order of the terms ‘Wayne’ and ‘John’.

I think Google can tell the difference, even though it probably doesn’t know who John Wayne or Wayne John is. The number of times ‘John Wayne’ is written John first is completely outnumbering the number of times that ‘Wayne’ is the first keyword term. Maybe that’s the reason?

Either way, I firmly believe that Google can tell us apart and knows the difference.

So What Does It All Mean?

So, the first words Google sees when it indexes my site is ‘Wayne John’. What would happen if I changed my header text to read ‘lil Wayne John’? Would I be able to scrape a little bit of lil Wayne’s traffic?

What if I changed it to read ‘lil Wayne John Wayne’?

I’m in the unique position to take advantage of this little play on words. So what do you think, should I try it and see what happens? What do you think the results would be?

I had to read the post a few times because the names threw me off a bit. My eyes got all bugged out trying to keep up with who was who just from the post. lol.

lol, nice. My evil plans are all coming together, confuse the readers is step one. hahaha

    I’ll drink to that.

I don’t understand why so many people love him! I don’t like his style!

  4. Wayne says:

That’s great, I’ll be sure to run over there next time I listen to lil Wayne…

He’s actually quite an offensive lil bastard isn’t he…lil Wayne that is…

  5. You can listen all Lil’ Wayne songs at http://lilwaynelyrics-az.blogspot.com

    Have fun!

  6. Wayne says:

Yeah, I’m wired up with many…too many (if that’s possible) to remember or keep track of. In fact, I just added a few more ping services to my list. I should share those.

  7. Adam says:

Consider doing some link building to your older posts so that the value of links to them increases.
Is your blog not listed with the various link brokers?

  8. Wayne says:

Excellent ideas. I didn’t consider selling links on the older posts themselves. That’s a great idea!

  9. Adam says:

Perhaps you should do some reviews of some John Wayne movies, or list some John Wayne trivia. And then do some reviews for the Lil Wayne as well. You could get a good deal of traffic, but like KathiD says above, its not going to be traffic that sticks around.
But now say you do get some traffic for those keywords, you could:

1.sell some links to some sites that sell merchandise for those two guys.
2.Perhaps you could have links to some affiliate programs that sell memorabilia, Dvd’s, books etc..

    FYI
Using the Google Adsense Keyword tool
Li Wayne has approximately 40,500 searches per month
“John Wayne” has approximately 450,000 searches per month..

  10. Wayne says:

That might be amusing, but not if I did it. I suck at photoshop and refuse to spend the next three years getting good enough to make something with it. If anyone else wants to make this, I’ll gladly post it up here and give kudos out.

We can use Lil Wayne’s teeth…ick

  11. Karen says:

I want to see how it would work if you photoshopped pictures of the three of you together!

  12. Wayne says:

I love Aha! I’ve been getting my own variety of Aha’s lately…lol

  13. Kathi D says:

    Aha! I get it now.

  14. Wayne says:

    Exactly, not much.

I would also like to add that I’ll have another contest that will be open for everyone. In case anyone felt left out, I’ve got everyone covered in some way.

  15. Evyl says:

Go for it. What could it hurt.

  16. Wayne says:

Great question Kathi! That’s exactly the type of traffic that clicks ads though! Granted, not 100% of the traffic is going to click away from my site through an ad, but the chances of that are better when you try to rank a page for a popular keyword.

You guys and gals that visit me regularly are never going to click an ad on here or anywhere else, because you are already attuned to them. You know why they’re there, how they work (or at least the intentions of them) and don’t click them as often. If you do, then it’s because you really really want to see that site.

Search traffic, however, click ads more often.

You’ll notice that some of my posts have ads in the top left corner of the post, whereas others don’t. I haven’t expressed this in a post at all I believe, and perhaps it could be one still, it’s fair to say at this point, if you see an ad in the upper left part of my screen, I’m attempting to target certain keywords with that particular post in the effort of increasing search traffic to my site. What becomes hard is tempering the desire to increase ad revenue with providing good, hopefully valuable if not amusing, material for you all to read.

If I didn’t target specific keywords, I’d still get some search traffic, but not as much as I do today. I’ve started to notice an increase, but I can’t tell yet how much of that increase is from the recent +1 to my PR.

That’s a great question, and I hope it helps you see the angle I’m looking at it.

  17. Vanea Bell says:

You dream to much…! Hahaha! I searched for both. For John Wayne and Wayne John… And, yes! Suprisely i founded you on first page! But only once… It’s hard to fight with those legends! When i met you first time i searched for Blogger help and you were on the top of first page, so… But maybe you are better ranked by the keywords from site content and not by the site title… Yea! I tried that, by the way, to put a famous title and don’t worked… Your site rank will be the same no matter what you’ll change in the title… You rise your site value more than a poor site title… I learned that on my own skin unfortunately… Because, no matter what i write, i have no visitors and i’m on the last Technorati position… Sad! Bell

  18. Kathi D says:

But what is the point of traffic that shows up, says, nope, this isn’t what I was looking for, and clicks away? (This is a serious question.)
