Just Another Panic Monday

It’s been well over a year since I started blogging, and when things first started, I was able to kick out a post or two each day. Then came the daily post, which led directly into a post every other day. The current pattern is now whenever I have time to properly form a post that attempts to be helpful and is written well enough as to not embarrass me.

Hopefully I’ve been hitting the mark with you.

So that you don’t think the swine flu has buggered me, and also to fend off the rumors that I’ve fell into a well only to have Lassie ignore my cries for help, I’ve decided, at the last hour before bed to just jot down some random tidbits that have been weighing on my mind.

Call it a true brain dump.

I’m still building out several posts as time permits. However, I’ve been fortunate enough to have several paying gigs recently that have forced me to give my attentions toward another’s pet project. Of course, this means that my plans get put on hold until I complete what I’ve committed myself to.

Not only that, but Blogger templates can be a pain. I’m not complaining. No no. I’m just saying that because I decided to show you how to build a template, I also need to decide the level that I’ll show. Do I get into the nuances of the code, or do I gloss over it and give you enough to do your own homework on the matter.

I’m tempted to take the latter route, because quite honestly, I don’t want to re-write any books that are already there for your use.

Conversely though, I also want you to “get it”. But I think I’ve decided that I’ll keep things at a high level and point out the details with an explanation when you call it out, or I feel it would be necessary.

Another issue with Blogger templates is that to do what I’m about to do, kinda requires that I do it all the way through to ensure what I have planned, can be done. The last thing I want to happen with my Template series is to find that I’ve painted myself into a corner and have to retract something previously said.

Needless to say, the next post I’m preparing on the topic has brought many, many issues to light. I’m busy addressing those issues, and I hope to see the completion of the next post sometime this week.

The problem with personal blogs is that life interrupts them sometimes, and you’re all subjected to the whims of my life.

Eh, enough of my rambling. I just wanted to keep you abreast of what’s going on in the land of Wayne. Work work work, and more client work.

Oh, another reason things are being dragged out for so long: I have an eBook coming. This new eBook is really the entire previous years project, learning Blogger. Turns out my efforts last year also turns out to be a great 75 page eBook that I now need to figure out how I want to offer it out to people.

Right now it’s being edited by a proper editor (my guru, the English professor) and it should be ready for release something next month.

Things are not slowing down for me one bit, and frankly I’m to the point where a personal assistant sounds incredibly nice.

But that will probably never happen. I’ll just suck it up and keep on trucking.

Thanks for being interested in what I write. I hope it helps you in your life and efforts. There will be more posts forthcoming, just remember that I don’t have the teenage lifestyle anymore.

I sure wish I did though, and that’s one of my life goals, to get that lifestyle back. I’ve found the nut, now I just need to figure out how to crack it.

Of course, when that nut cracks, I’ll share it with you.

Cheers!

Pre-posts have saved me before, it’s just building them up that’s the hard part! Thanks for commenting Jill!

I have a hard time putting out too many posts as well. Thats a good idea to put out pre posts. I have a few ideas I have been knocking around and I might throw out a few posts just kind of talking about what I want to do.

I don’t like them from a browsing perspective. I think they’re a pain. If you’re going to make me scroll to read or look at something, do it on the page, not in this little square area that scrolls independently from the rest of the page.

I find it annoying. BUT, there are times, albeit rare perhaps, that it can work. I think it’s a risk in terms of usability, but I guess it’s possible it could be done nicely and be effective.

As a web developer, I can care less. How do you want your eggs? hahaha

  4. Manz says:

Thanks for the extra link Wayne.

    Can I ask…
You don’t like scrolling divs from the perspective of a net user/browser?
You don’t like scrolling divs from the persective of a web developer?

    Or both?

I don’t mind them… as long as they sit where they are designed to on the page!! And function properly.

  5. Wayne says:

    Thanks Patty!

Manz, no, and I don’t personally like them, but they do have their place. I would run it through http://browsershots.org/ and take a look at the results.

Put it in, and go get some coffee. It could take a bit to finish, but when it does, you’ll know what OS/Browser combo will render your work inappropriately.

    Cheers!

  6. Manz says:

I’ve got a question… have you/do you ever use scrolling divs?

I’m using one that I’ve tested on the Mac/PC; Safari, Explorer, & Firefox… all seems fine. Is there anything I’m missing – some other browser I should look at it in?

  7. Patty says:

Wayne, even your “brain dumping” is educational. Thanks for doing what you do, and I’ll be looking for more info on your e-book.

  8. Manz says:

I can relate… I’m just lucky that I’m a co-author for a blog – don’t know what kind of pressure I’d feel if it was just me.

Make sure you get your sleep!! Your followers understand if you need to take a blogging break now and again.

Fairy (yeah, I forgot your name and too lazy to click the link to find out. But not too busy to write a completely lengthy explanation of why) it’s not getting easier, that’s for sure. I’ve also managed to stick my fingers into so many pies that I’m full. Bloated even.

I appreciate that you don’t mind the erratic frequency. I’ve been trying to control that, but allowing myself to slip my own personal schedule. Life. lol

Thanks Carolyn, that means a lot to me. I’ll look you up when I can afford you! lol Thanks!

Ah, Cape Cod Gal, you know how I much I enjoy hearing you say that? ;) Will do!

On a side note, if you happen to read the comments, you might have noticed my lack of keeping up. Part of this is due to not getting all my emails from the site. I only recieved an email for Cape Cod, the others didn’t come through, for whatever reason. Anyway, I came on the other night an was shocked to find so many comments that I hadn’t been alerted to.

Anyway. I’m trying to figure out a course of action on it. It’s tricky because you can’t reproduce it. It just…hate to say it…happens.

I’m sure it’s on my hosts side. I just need to figure out how to prove it to them.

    Cheers ya’all!

I love your junk! I just never get the techincal stuff. To heavy for me! Keep at it.

  11. Carolyn says:

Wayne, I enjoy reading whatever you throw out there, so if I am learning or being entertained it’s all fine by me. Actually, I really enjoy reading the personal stuff-I like learning what makes people tick.
I can totally relate to what you’re saying about not having the teenage lifestyle anymore. Wish I did, though, because I am more busy than ever.
Hey, look me up if you ever get serious about that assistant, I don’t charge much!

  12. I’m glad you checked in to give us a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into making this blog.

I follow in Google Reader, so any posting frequency is fine by me.
