Follow your bliss

There comes a time in everyone’s life, at least there should be a time, where we begin to question our heading in life. Questions like “Is this the direction I want to continue in?” and “Am I making the right decisions every day that will lead me to where I want to be?” might be familiar to you.  Recently, they’ve been weighing heavy on my own mind and I’ve changed my life so significantly these past months and years that I no longer believe the course I’ve been heading in is where I ultimately want to end up at.  So I’ve been doing a little course correction while I’ve been away from writing techie posts here on WayneJohn.com.

You may or may not know exactly how many hours I spend behind the keyboard, but no human really should spend their time like I do.  It’s not healthy to sit for so long, but yet, it sometimes has to be done. The time had come to where I’d look down at myself and wonder exactly how far I’m going to allow my gut to roll over my buckle.  I essentially became disgusted with myself and made the determination to finally do something about it.  My lethargy and lack of energy for anything other than mentally stimulating projects and tasks has finally come to an end.

That’s right, I got out of my chair and actually did something good for myself; things like regular exercise and eating right.  It felt good, and I slowly became very driven to succeed with the goals I had set for myself, and ultimately I did succeed.

Even though I had reached my goals, I’m not stopping.  At some point I realized that I enjoy being healthy and getting good nutrition.  I don’t think I’d feel the same about it if my energy wasn’t through the roof as it is now.  And that’s the kicker, I’m actually more energetic and my brain actually feels more productive, so the time I spend away from the keyboard is really offset by the energy and focus I’ve achieved.  I get more done, and I’m more effective when I’m behind the keyboard.

However, this doesn’t apply to the gap between this post and the last one.  I just haven’t been into writing about technology stuff like I used to, and to be honest, that’s why I’m writing this post now.  Call it a formal notice of sorts to those subscribers out there that have been gracious enough to honor me with a subscription.

I’m preparing to change directions with the old blog.  I will no longer write about technology, website development, tips and tricks and stuff like that.  Instead, health and fitness will be the over-arching topic on my blog.  I have enough knowledge about the subject, and having achieved my own goals (which I will share in a later post) I feel I have something to contribute.  More so than with technology.

Another compelling reason for the change is that technology really doesn’t help anyone improve their quality of life like health and fitness does.  I don’t mean to sound altruistic, but there’s a great satisfaction I feel when I’m able to help someone achieve their goals, which I have also been lucky enough to have done for a few people so far.

It is my intention to help as many people as I can to achieve their own health and wellness goals while I’m here in this reality.  I have done this for myself and a few others, and I want to continue that and extend my blog in that direction as well to reach even more people and help them as well.

All that said, you can consider this the official change notice, if one were needed.  If you were here for technology related topics, there will not be anything new forthcoming.  What you can expect however are articles relating to health, fitness and wellness.

Time to follow my bliss!  I hope to see you around.

I can recognize myself in this post. I have also been right where you are now. Once in a while people need to make important choices in life and one little choice can change everything !

I think it’s great that you have found something you can feel good about. Just a walk in the forrest can cheer anyone up :)

But it’s a little bit sad that you’ve decided to quit with technology related topics :( It was very interesting to read. But, I will continue following your blog and I hope to learn something about health and fitness instead !

I was WONDERING where the heck you’ve been. Well, I didn’t follow you for the tech stuff anyway, I followed you because you’re an interesting guy.

Wayne

That’s awesome, Roger. Thanks for sharing that. I’ve been really wanting to get back to doing some serious blogging, but every time I start off I just seem to lose interest really quick. I think I’ve reached my limit with technology 24/7, and I’m welcoming this change, big time! Cheers Roger! So glad to hear from you!

Wayne, glad you met your goals and know what you want to do now. We have worked together to help each other for a couple of years now and I for one look forward to your new direction.

Although my main business remains helping others with their “online presence” I to have jumped out and started doing something other than sitting here 15-18 hours a day at the computer by playing music again after a 25 year hiatus.

Cheers to change!

Wayne
Twitter:

Cheers to change indeed! You know, that sample of your music that you shared with me, I still play it now and then. As raw as it is, it’s pretty darn good. You have a talent there, sir. One day I’m going to enjoy a beer and listen to you play live.

We are booking a lot of weekend cover gigs, and hope to have some more original material uploaded soon. I can not tell you how much fun it has been playing again, especially with my brother who I never had the opportunity to jam with until now!

Now I just need to lose some weight, hhhmmm, wonder what blog I should follow for a healthier life?

Wayne
Twitter:

Haha, pretty cool! I’ll have to check those out a little bit more to see what you’re up to. I always liked that we can look at each others handiwork and figure out what each other is doing, technically, seo and benefit-wise.

Hang on and I’ll hook you up. If you are ready for some serious effort towards those goals, we should talk sooner rather than later. Capitalizing on motivation is a great way to kick-start positive life changes. :)

Wayne – In the past few days I have been contemplating dropping you a line to check on you, good to see you have been missing for a good reason.

I had similar Epiphany after last Christmas, although I probably do not spend as much time at the keyboard as you do, the time I did spend was way too much.

I set myself a reasonable goal of losing 1oz. a day, through diet and exercise, weighing myself on the first day of the month. I figured I needed to lose 25lbs. By now I should have lost almost 20lbs. I failed in my goal, but I am still pleased with the 16lbs I have lost. By next spring I expect to meet my goal.

Congratulations on you turning things around personally, it can only help you professionally.

Wayne
Twitter:

That is still something to be quite proud of, Holte. I spent the last two years doing the same. Slow change is what I wanted. Anything too fast would just be scary and probably not stick at all, ya know? For me, it was about changing habits and making life-long changes to my diet and getting into the habit of exercising regularly. I figure I could wait for the changes to slowly come over time, and they did, thankfully. haha

I’m still going to be around the computer as I still have clients that request work now and then, and I enjoy the fact that I can support them.

I cannot wait to unveil everything that’s going to happen! I’ve been chewing on this for months, deciding if I should brand a new site, or transition this one. Ultimately, I felt that the personal nature of this site is perfect for what I want to do.

I appreciate the kind words, Holte. Thanks for being a good ear and voice of reason! :)

Hi Wayne,

It was cool to follow your posts about technology, not just for the content but your funny style of writing :)

Health and fitness are always in the center of my interest, so I’m looking forward to reading some stuff coming from your experience in that area.

Congratulations on achieving health and fitness goals you set for yourself!!!!!

Hi Wayne,

I share your thoughts. I too am found of writing anything about technology – particularly in design. I love doing stuff that involves using new technologies and the thirst for knowledge keeps me going that sometimes I forget to stop.

We really need to take care of ourselves. My weight and health is a seesaw for the past 9 months. Ive been in and out of the gym. Now, my goal is set. Its pointless if I attain my goal of success online if I wont be there to enjoy it. Thanks!

Wow that’s a brave and dramatic shift. Props to you for having the b*lls to do it! I’ve been a casually reader of your stuff and it’s pretty cool. However, thankfully for me, my main interests lie within the health and fitness niche so I look forward to what you have coming! :)

Thanks! I don’t think it takes balls so much as it takes really figuring out what might make one happiest, ya know? The fact that I found a passion for this is really thrilling actually. Feels good. Cheers Sandip!

Hi Wayne

There’s nothing wrong with taking a break! Its good to recharge one’s batteries every once in a while. To step back and take a more holistic view gives you the opportunity to reevaluate what is important to you. And these moments usually come at an important time in your life; a birth, a death, the beginning or end of a relationship.

On a more day-to-day level, a change of environment works wonder. The same desk or chair can become a grind. Everyone has their favourite coffee bar nowadays from which to “work”.

The demands of our worklives are such that we shouldn’t be tied to our desks. With decent laptop/tablet battery life, we can work anywhere.

Wayne
Twitter:

That’s a lifestyle that is not so out of my reach, and one that I can’t wait to begin! Cheers Chas!

Hi Wayne,

It was nice to hear your goals. I would like to comment on the technology part. I think it all depends on a person on how he will use technology to improve his daily living. I guess, technology is still helpful. Many equipment are improved to serve humans to get a healthy life style. Well, maybe, you’re just too busy to spend time realizing it’s benefits. Simply, my point would be… without technology, we wold not share our thoughts through internet. It’s cool to blog about tech but I’ll support you in your desire.

It’s my first time to drop by here, just stumbled here. Goodluck for the change.Wish you all the best.

Hey Wayne!
I really admire and appreciate your firm and well fabricated transformation, although i am an engineer and a tech lover and i was came here to find such kind of related stuff but in my perception health is all the wealth no doubt,if you don’t have a good health that means there is no meaning for anything rest in your life,my father is a doctor and i know what is a value of good health. Before sometime i was also use to work behind the keyboards for whole night and the results which i have achieved in the exchange of that was a “2nd GRADE FATTY LEVER”,so now i focus bit more on my health.
Your blog was useful for me before also and it is useful for me from now onwards also.

Thank you for sharing such a great and valuable content with us and i am waiting for your upcoming healthy posts.

Good Luck and God Bless!!

Thanks Samuel, I appreciate that very much. I thought that going from tech to something else might be difficult, but with health and fitness, it’s actually going to relate to more people than tech would. I believe this will open the doors to an even wider audience for me. So I’m pretty excited about that for sure.

Look forward to hearing from you again, Samuel. Cheers!

Kudos to you Wayne for getting the “exercise bug” and going all healthy! I enjoy trying to find a balance in my life, so between writing my blogs, creating new content and all the other computer work I do, I try to work out 3 days a week. I don’t always make it, but usually. I enjoy staying healthy, and since I’m over 50 it’s a necessity. I’m a newcomer to your site, but hope to be back very soon. Congrats once again on the healthy turn, and hopefully I can get some great tips from you!

Hi Wayne!
It’s very important to choose the right time to make some changes in your life. Changes are necessary for everyone as they make our life more meaningful. If you think it’s high time for you to change the topic and to write about something that is more interesting for you right now – then I’m looking forward to your first post on the new topic! Good luck and best regards!

Ana from Dias Fertiles

This is a very bold thing to do, and I’m with you all the way.

I’ve started writing and blogging after I had a knee surgery and had to give up professional career in sports. After two years with the keyboard, all my biceps, triceps and sixpacks were gone.

Now, I ordered myself to go swimming at least three times a week, NO MATTER WHAT. I’ve been doing this for the past three months and I can’t describe well enough how much it helps my work.

Wish you all the luck!

LOLOL!! this is too funny… Looks like I got on the late train…the link caught my eye because it was about health analysis stuff…!

After filling out the health thingy I looked around and found the techy side of Wayne’s brain, and found out he doles out advice for would be website owners like me…too late, lol. But hopefully you’ll keep the tech stuff on here? or somewhere where we can read it??

Thanks for sharing, Wayne. I like your style. I am hoping to be inspired OUT of my rut and looks like I came to the right place. ;)

I support you Wayne, as I know that sitting in front of the computer hour after hour is a health-destructing factor! But you’re right, sometimes it needs to be done. But fear not, we can always adjust the working routine. And in your case, adjusting the topic of your blog might be a good decision!

It’s a good point, but…do you think it’s healthy for people to sit and read about healthy nutrition and fitness :) ? But ok, maybe it’s a good starting point for decision about actually doing it :)
And may I recommend yoga classes…it’s really relaxing and I found it great after long working days…and cooking…but then, I have to go online to find receipts…ok, as I said before, Internet is a good starting point…

Enjoy your new daily routine :)

Good for you! I went through a similar thing about 18 months ago when a childhood friend died and I spent a long time thinking about my life, what I was doing and what direction I wanted it to go in. I finished writing my first book in June this year and I am really enjoying my new direction. It’s a new path and I’m not sure yet how it will pan out but I am much happier within myself especially because I am helping people. Good luck to you!

Iskandar from Inspirational Sayings

I think it is hard to follow one’s bliss in life if we do not have an idea of why we are created.

Are we here to make the world a better place?. Is the earth our first and final destination? Are we going to live again after death — just like dead seeds growing again for a new beginning.

IMHO, only after we have the answer to those questions do we find it easy to find our bliss.
