Amoxicillin capsules are antibiotics that come in capsule form and will expire on you eventually. It’s not like I’m actually wondering what the shelf life might be, but there are plenty of people out there wanting to know the answer. I’m going to be helpful and provide an answer, and try to find the information people want to know.
So I asked myself, “What is the shelf life of amoxicillin? Does it actually expire?”. The answer might astound you.
Then again, probably not. Here, here and here are three different sites, and each one doesn’t appear to really address the question at all. In fact, they don’t say a single word about any shelf life, or if amoxicillin actually expires.
What I do believe however, it’s not so much that they expire and go bad, but instead they become bad for you. Taking pills that are past their expiration tend to not be as effective in resolving whatever you might be taking the pills for. When you do that, whatever you’re trying to kill inside you might be able to over-power the drugs you’re taking, potentially causing the bug to gain immunity to them altogether. That isn’t a good thing.
It’s also why you’re told to take ALL your pills. Taking them all ensures that you’re getting the best bang for your buck.
But really, what do I know. There are thousands of medical professionals out there that can help answer this question for you. The shelf life of amoxicillin is only as long as it takes to clear the bottle of all the pills your doctor prescribed.
Really people, how hard is it to figure these things out? I can’t keep trolling the Internet for far-out questions every day. You’re going to have to step up to the plate and do something about it. Maybe a poll will help change things up? Oh! Look! I happen to have one right here! Fill out that poll and help make my site better than expired amoxicillin capsules.
WARNING! I’m not a doctor, nor do I even look like one. If you take pills that you have no idea where they came from, or who gave them to you, don’t blame me. I’m just a programmer making my way through this crazy world. Please consult a real doctor next time instead of a search engine.
