I’m excited to be able to fully recommend and endorse DreamHost as my preferred web host. I’ve been using them for the past year and the experience has been absolutely fantastic.
I’ve been using web hosts for a number of years, and each one I’ve found issues with at some point that have made me wish I wasn’t hosting with them. But not with DreamHost. DreamHost is completely different.
Since starting with DreamHost, I’ve had a chance to establish a number of sites for a low price without the need to pay any more than the base price. Here’s what I’m taking advantage of right now and what you can also take advantage of:
- Unlimited storage – Store all the files you want. Yes, you might run out of disk space eventually, after all, nothing is truly “unlimited” right? But you do get so much space that I doubt you’d hit any limits. In fact, I challenge you to try.
- Unlimited bandwidth – That’s right, want to set up that site that consumes an enormous amount of bandwidth, but don’t want to pay the extra fees that every other host will charge you? DreamHost won’t do that to you.
- Unlimited hosting – You can host an unlimited number of web sites and/or an unlimited number of sub-domains without incurring extra fees. You know what that means? Your host has now become your playground where you can try those other ideas out if you want to. Go ahead, there are no limits!
- Unlimited email accounts – DreamHost isn’t like the other hosts where they will charge you for each email address. DreamHost gives you an unlimited number of email addresses instead which can easily help you grow your site.
- Unlimited databases – DreamHost uses MySQL for any backend storage needs your site might have. It’s easy to set up, and you guessed it, you can create as many as you need.
- So much more!
So with all the “unlimited” items they are offering, where’s the catch you might ask? I’m still asking the same thing and I have not found any catch yet, they really are that dreamy in my opinion. It’s why I’m able to stand behind DreamHost and proudly say, “This is the host you need to be using!”.

I’ve had a chance to interact with a few of the guys and gals behind the scenes at DreamHost. I’ve had a few issues that I’ll call “end-user issues” (even I have my bonehead moments and need some help) and I’ll tell you that not only did they come back with a response quickly, but they did so professionally, but not to the point of being a corporate drone like the other companies I’ve used. These guys are very knowledgeable and have helped me to complete satisfaction each and every time.
It wasn’t a one-off type thing where I just got lucky getting the one guy that is always helpful. Each and every one of the guys on the other end were the same. Knowledgeable, professional, friendly, and just like me. A human being that I was able to communicate with effectively. Not some corporate robot or someone from India who I couldn’t understand.

Wayne – How long does your offer last? I am seriously pondering starting a blog on Wordpress, in an earlier post you recommended Wordpress as being a good place to go. It would be a .com site and I would like it to be more complex than I am capable of right now. Dreamhost seems to be perfect for what I am thinking. I see it as a project for 2010 and I am serious about it. Right now I am formulating on notepads what I would like to include, so you can tell, I am in the scribbling down ideas stage. If there is anything you could recommend for where I am right now, I would appreciate it.

My offer stands in perpetuity as far as I’m concerned.
Keep taking notes and formulating what you’d like the end result to act and look like (which can be hard sometimes, so don’t beat yourself up over it), and try to build out the functionality the site needs to perform.
If/when you would like to discuss your project, I’d be happy to hop on the phone (or Skype) with you sometime over the weekend. Just contact me when you’re ready for that.

I’m a big fan too… I started up my first site on Dreamhost almost two years ago and its been great. There was a little slowness at first, but this lasted like a week or two while everything was getting sorted out and finding its place on the servers. Many of my domains ended up getting their own IP addresses – something that would normally cost a whole lot extra. Since my own issues have been “end-user issues” their user forum has been an extremely useful resource.
So I still haven’t had any direct experience with the support team, but I consider that to be a good thing!

Dream Hosting is one of the best hosts that I know. Providing customers with a highly effective hosting solutions this company has gained a good reputation at the market. Constantly incrasing number of positive customer reviews can fully approve this fact.

Dreamhost is good, but it depends on what server you end up on. I’ve been happy with them over the years, but I’ve also been moved to a few servers, and recently I’ve been having a horrible uptimes and performance. Tech support gets back to me.. usually 6-8 hours after support ticket has been filed, and had to move one of my larger sites off of it for a more stable host. Since then, things seem to be much better.
Dreamhost is good, but just like anything… YMMV

I think of it as swimming in the public pool. I’d rather swim in my own pool personally. If you host your site on any shared host you’ll end up with what you describe. My personal server with them has been really good to me so far so I can’t complain.
Like I mentioned before, each time I have ever had an issue, they were on top of it. Unfortunately things do happen and you sometimes get a bad experience, but compared to other hosts I’ve played with, Dreamhost has been the best experience overall. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I’ve been hosting with a number of hosts, one of which was dreamhost a few years ago. I tried running a phpnuke site and it just didn’t work right. after numerous calls and emails I decided to switch. I’ve been with realwebhost ever since. I guess dreamhost has cleaned up it’s act and servers.
I also hosted with bluehost recently and of all the great reviews I’ve read I’ve had nothing but problems with them and this weekend is me spending the weekend moving all my sites off bluehost and onto hostgator. Hostgator has really been nice to work with. really nice. no down time so far whereas with bluehost it’s been a weekly occurrence.

Dreamhost isn’t the only good host out there, that’s true. It’s good for the market to have solid competition, helps keep the prices down and the services increasing.
I haven’t had any of the issue you’ve described, so perhaps at one point they did have issues. For everything I’ve been doing though, no real problems to speak (that weren’t of my own doing at least
