Clocky Alarm Clock – Waking up has never been so annoying

November 23, 2009 · 9 comments

Clocky Alarm ClockDoes it take a crane to lift your butt out of bed? If you’re like me, you’d rather stay in bed than wake up and fight traffic to make it to work on time. Maybe what we need is a little motivation?  I found this amusing and thought you might too.

Meet the Clocky alarm clock.  Clocky is an alarm clock that will try it’s best to wake you up.  On schedule (it is an alarm clock after all), it will sound off.  If you don’t react to it, it will then come alive and move around in an attempt to hide itself from you, sounding off all along the way.

This might appear as a novelty item to some.  But to many of us, it’s a great alternative to the standard alarm clock.  Especially if you’ve ever considered getting a deaf persons alarm clock with the vibrating bed and flashing lights.

Check out this video from Nanda, makers of the Clocky alarm clock to see it in action.

So, you can see how this might wake someone up.  Be it by annoying them perhaps, it would get you out of bed so long as you don’t keep a shot-gun next to your bed.

I know a few people that will be getting Clocky for Christmas.  One of them is for our kids, the dog and two cats.  I’m sure we’ll have as much fun watching them react to Clocky as they will trying to figure out what the heck Clocky is, and why it’s moving about the house without a human around.

And if you have a dog, I’d suspect that once the Clocky alarm clock goes off, you’ll have two things to quiet down.  Doesn’t that sound like fun?  It does to me, that’s why I’m buying one for my friends house.

Not only is this a great gift to give a close friend that has kids, pets, etc…this would make a great gift to give someone whom you really don’t want to give a gift to, but feel compelled to give one to anyway.  Come on, we all have those people in our lives that probably don’t deserve anything, but we’ll get them something anyway, right?  Right.

Clocky sells for $39 to $45 on the manufacturer’s site, but here are some deals I found that will help you save some serious money if you decide Clocky is for you, or for someone else.

Note: I displayed a few Amazon items, but to my surprise, they were upwards of $50 each!!!  So I removed them since they really aren’t a deal.  eBay has some really good deals though, check em out!

Hey Wayne….first off – in an un-related note…what is the “URI” window field for? Does it have something to do w/my photo not showing up when I reply?

As for clocky, sounds like a cute idea. Also liked how ya thought ahead of those that actually may want to purchase one and include the ebay bids. Enjoyed the vid.
Out of curiosity, is this something that would work for you? You mentioned that you have 2 cats (and a dog). My only cat experience was when my brother was living w/us for a few years and my Mom who’s had the same cat for about 15 years. Both have told me that if either or “sleep in”, the cats would actually get their attention my any means neccessary. A rub on the face, meowing, heck…..even goin’ as far as stepping on their heads in the most dire cases. Do you get the same “wake up” service from your “kids”?

i’m sure a lot of people will find that clock useful. one bad habit that i got from alarm clocks is that I always push the snooze button. got me into trouble at times when I wake up an hour after the initial alarm had turned on. ahh, the good ol days.

zzyzx, the URI is for placing a link to your site. See: http://www.waynejohn.com/how-to-comment-on-a-blog/

I’m planning on buying one for myself. We actually are in need of a clock, so I figure I can spend a few dollars and get a novelty clock too. When I do, I’ll make a video perhaps. And yes, actually, I’ve been without an alarm clock since getting a few pets. They seem to wake me up like, well, clockwork. ;) (couldn’t resist…)

Ryhen, I miss those carefree days!

My alarm clock meows and if that fails, bites me on the nose. It goes off regularly around 7.30am :)

That clock is hilarious! It reminds me of something you would see on the Jetsons.

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for the great post about Clocky and spreading the Clocky love.

@Manz, Clocky’s creator was actually inspired by kittens waking her up in the morning to give Clocky a pet-like character.

Thanks again!

Cheap Textbooks

I know some who really need this. I don’t think I would want one, as I might get very cranky. lol
