Clive Barker – My favorite author

You’ve probably seen that I’ve added the current book I’m reading to my sidebar. It’s my attempt to make Amazon work for me a little by trying to promote an author that I love to read. Clive Barker is my number one read. Ever since I first picked up and read Weaveworld, I’ve been sucked in to Mr. Barker’s writing.

Clive Barker has a way of telling a story that keeps the reader gripped to every word. Even though the book The Hellbound Heart is the first book he wrote, and subsequently became the basis for the popular Hellraiser series (you know, the one with Pinhead), it’s not as scary as you might think. Clive has an ability to make the scariest of scenarios become intriguing enough that you forget that you’re supposed to be scared, and instead more involved with the story being told.

The villains have a personality, they communicate, and you want to know more about them.

Imajica is my favorite. In Imajica, there is a great reconciliation that happens only every so often, and when you start the book, it’s coming. The reconciliation is a moment in time where we here on earth, in the 5th dominion, might be able to travel to and be part of the other four dominions, on up to the heavenly 1st dominion. We are, however, cut off and unaware of these other dominions. Quite a lengthy read, but it made me sit on my bed and read all weekend and the better part of the next week until I finished. It was that gripping.

If you like fantasy, a little horror, and a wild psychological ride, I highly recommend you add some Clive Barker to your library.

Here are some of the books mentioned, and they happen to be my favorite from Clive. If you buy one I’ll make a little money too, perhaps in time for Christmas! Regardless though, if you enjoy the fantasy and horror genres, you’ll like Clive Barker.

Note to Mr. Clive Barker, may I request that you put together a second Imajica? That was an incredible journey and your best effort in my opinion.

nice author review, and I have taken note of his name, so that next time I go to the library will have something to select in mind, rather than let my fingers do the walking through the shelves.
