I’m in a bit of a quandry over what to do with the extensions over on BlogEngineTheme.com. I have a couple extensions that I’d like to put up, but I’m not terribly happy with the way the extensions are currently laid out.
What I’m think is that I should move away from using the BlogEngine post mechanism to host the extension files.
I mean, it’s silly. When I post an extension, I need to set the date to a specific range so as not interfere with the nice stream of themes on the homepage. Once I set the date, the extension post slips into place. The extension post sits in sequence with the other extension posts, while the theme posts are pretty easy to post, by just using the current date. You’ll see a new theme pop up every now and then as people send them in.
I think I might make some changes to how I display the extensions.
Another quandary with this is the fact that I like to test each component and display them as a sample. However, I can test them just fine, and do a code check to make sure there isn’t anything bad in the files. But to display them in action is a different story entirely. If I loaded every extension into the preview site, it would end up looking quite bad. So, what to do.
If anyone has some thoughts on this, let me know. I’m always interested in hearing what solutions others might come up with.
In the meantime, I’ll continue to ponder this issue and I promise, to those that have submitted an extension, I’ll find a fix and get your extensions posted. That’s a promise.
