Well, it’s been about a week and a half since I’ve last updated everyone on my progress with riding a bike to work. I haven’t ridden my bike since my first ride to work due to some issues with my knees.
They were absolutely killing me the night after the first ride, so I’ve decided to take a little time off to recuperate a bit. I’ll probably head into the doctors and get some x-rays taken to ensure that I’m not causing more harm to myself than good.
I believe my knee issues stem from a fall I took off a cliff when I was playing around a natural water slide near Mt. Baldy. I dropped about 20 ft. from a cliff face I was crawling up, and landed pretty well, at least I thought so.
We were pretty drunk, and I walked away. Who knows what kind of damage I did to my knees thought. I worry that it may have caused some problems, so an x-ray is in order.
I’ve been taking arthritic medicine that seems to help with the pain and popping sounds, but I don’t want to continue taking pills. I’ve never been one to take pills. I believe they just mask the issue, and I’d rather fix the issue.
I’ll hop back on once I know that I can do the ride without screwing my body up more than it already is. Baby steps…

Hi Wayne,
Pain in your knees form bicycling may have to do also with practice and using the right gears when it gets steep. Though we do not have many mountains, we teach our cyclists to use the right gears (not to heavy!) when they are cycling on the beach (hard work) or with a lot of wind.
Amazing, someone just emailed me regarding ‘the drop’ wondering how to get there. It’s off the 10 fwy, just head north up Mountain and go past the tunnels in the mountains. It’ll be on your right hand side after a short hill down to the right. The entrance is a little turnoff towards the right.
Many people have had their car broken into there. If you go, don’t leave anything you don’t want stolen in the car. Better yet, take a rental with good insurance.
