In the face of the worst economic disaster in human history, banks who have taken tax-payer money to help them stay afloat, or to even get ahead and help their bottom line on our own dime, have decided to give bonuses to their staff once again.
It’s obvious that banks don’t have anyone’s interest but their own in mind. Obama told banks today that instead of those bonuses they plan on giving out, they should instead pay back the money they received as part of the bailout.
Will the banks comply? Probably not. Again, that’s the capitalism talking. Get money however you can, and damn the consequences or who is being hurt in the process.
For once I’d like to see a corporation or bank with a little respect for America’s situation, but I fear we are well beyond any hope for that. I’ve lost complete interest in being a part of a capitalistic society, and I’ve also lost complete faith in bankers, whatever little there was to begin with.
This is my biggest peeve with major corporations, and why I’ll never work for one ever again in my life. I don’t agree with their capitalistic ways, and I won’t be a part of, nor support the plans for fleecing us that happen behind boardroom doors.
I’d gladly march and protest in the streets if I felt it would do any good, but people seem too complacent these days. Perhaps they’re done caring too.
Banks are making me fuming mad at the arrogance they display. What are your thoughts? Why not add them below and help promote this message of piss-offedness by telling your friends to also leave a message? Perhaps together we can tell the banks and Obama that we’re done with all this bullshit.
I’d also love to hear the other side of the story too. Should banks be able to give out bonuses in light of America’s financial situation?

Bonuses for poor work? I’m busy filling out job applications for every bank I can find!

Ok Ari, I wasn’t ready for that level of wit, lol It’s all about perception isn’t it? hahaha
Too right they should. Banks should not be allowed to gamble and throw away our money!!
If American society were as informed in general as the peeps above my comments, this type o’ crap w/big business would never have happened. People give more of a rat’s ass what Paris Hilton is wearing or if Oprah is going to mention the hot toy of the Christmas season more than what’s goin’ on in their own homes, block, city, county & etc.. People in general wanna get drunk, paid & laid (in no particular order) and the government or banks know it. It’s not until stuff like bonus’ for the undeserving get’s people’s goat. Not you Wayne….I figured you as a well-informed individual from way back. No way am I justifying what the banks are doing is morally right, but this society needs to get away from the TV/couch and start noticing things outside their domiciles.

It depends what you call a bonus.
I opened a new checking account last week at a community bank. Of three choices for checking accounts, I opened the bonus checking account. By maintaining certain bullets, I’ll earn 10% interest every month. That’s the bonus; the next level down account is only 1/4%.
But you mean other bonuses. That’s what you get with non-community banks.

When it all hit the fan about 18 months ago, they hit us with “we must save the financial system”, pure fear tactics. It worked, for them, but after witnessing what has gone on since the bail out, I wish we had let them fail, so we could start again, from the top down. There is a grass roots movement called MoveYourMoney which is worth a look. The idea behind it is to promote small community banks (which were not bailed out) and drain all the money out of Wall Street. It probably won’t succeed because of the fear that still permeates society. I would love to see Wall Street mega-banks competing with Main Street for our dollars, we might get some value for our money.

LOL, Who do you think will pay this new tax that Obama says the banks should pay (you & I – that’s who).
It’s all a scam, started with Obama & ends with us. If Obama was legit, that would have been at the top of the list before banks could borrow money from the gov. , that is, the bank shouldn’t be allowed to pay any type of bonus to anyone.
Banks suck unless your a CEO, then your a winner, no matter what you do you’ll still get one hell of a severance package, give me a couple hundred million, & I’ll leave my job (I promise… really… I’ll leave).
Like I said, it’s all a scam,
I understand your position & agree 100%, thing is for every guy that says I’ll never work for the banks, you’ll find a few thousand families in the US, that have a nasty habit of expecting to eat food & have a roof over their heads (insert that shit job at the bank), gotta pay the bills, you know that Catch-22 thing…

Banks offering bonuses should be slapped…DAMN STRAIGHT! Our first mistake was bailing their sorry asses out and now when we expect them to do the right thing… will they? I seriously doubt it.
Banks should NOT hand out bonuses! A bonus is a reward for doing do good and making money (not losing it). The money invested by the government should NOT count as profits. But you hit it on the head… its their arrogance.
Personally, I believe they shouldn’t have bailed them out and let them go belly up. That would have made room for the small to medium size banks that actually manage their money PROPERLY room to grow.
